Best Christmas Light Installation Software (2026)
Seven tools compared on design, measurement, quoting, e-sign, payments, CRM and job management, with verified 2026 prices and a pick for each kind of shop.
By Jack Seguin · · 9 min read
Seven tools are worth an installer's time in 2026, and they run from $0 a year to $699 a month. Strandr ($197/yr) is the visualizer. LightMaster ($187/yr to $99.99/mo) and LightQuoter (free, or $497/yr) are the two that try to cover the whole job for a holiday shop. Tinsel CRM ($828/yr) is the deepest on takedown and storage. QuoteIQ ($29.99 to $699/mo) and Jobber ($29 to $499/mo) are general contractor platforms that lighting installers bend to fit. GlowBid ($299/yr founding, $499 regular, $69/mo) is ours, new this November, and the only one where the drawn run, the footage and the price are one object.
Disclosure first: I build GlowBid and I install permanent lighting in Ottawa. I have tried to write the other six the way I would want them written about mine. Every price and feature below was checked on the vendor's own site on September 7, 2026 and is linked, and where a vendor's site does not say something, I say "not shown" rather than guess. Prices are in US dollars as the vendors list them.

"Standard+" and "Beginner+" mean the feature starts at that plan. Lite is LightMaster's second tier and does not include e-signature or payments.
Strandr
$197 a year, 7-day trial, 30-day money-back. Strandr is the mockup tool: upload a photo, drag lights along the roofline, pick up to five colours, export a clean image. The home page claims 1,700+ contractors and a two-minute average per mockup. Measuring is a separate free tool called Inchr that Strandr bundles as a "$197/year value." Strandr's own comparison post lists what it does not do: "No built-in CRM or invoicing," no phone support, no offline mode. It suits the shop that closes on the picture and already has quoting and payments elsewhere. Our full comparison is at Strandr alternative.
LightMaster
Four tiers on the pricing page: Free (mockups lite), Lite at $24.99/mo or $187/yr (AI mockups, QuickMeasure photo measurement, CRM, estimates), Standard at $79.99/mo (adds e-signature, scheduling, invoicing and payments, four users), Professional at $99.99/mo (adds route planning, crew management, QuickBooks, nine users). Annual billing is shown as "4 months free" and "5 months free" rather than a dollar figure. Every account starts with 7 days of Professional, no card. The home page says it runs "permanent, year-round architectural lighting" as well as holiday, and lists the mobile app as "coming this summer." LightMaster is the most complete product in this list and the one I would send a holiday shop to if GlowBid did not exist. Its render is a picture, though, not a bill of materials, and pricing is entered rather than derived from the drawing.
LightQuoter
Free with all features, paid for by a 2% platform fee on payments collected through Stripe on top of Stripe's own processing, or $497 a year to drop the fee to zero. The chain is address to satellite trace to Street View mockup to quote to e-sign to Stripe to CRM, with a kanban board, crew scheduling, route optimization and takedown planning. The quote does build from your per-foot rate and the traced footage, which is closer to what we do than anyone else here. The catch is where the footage comes from: tracing on satellite and drawing on Street View both lean on Google imagery, which undercounts gables from above and which Google's terms do not allow you to store or measure. Their site does not mention permanent lighting. Best for a seasonal shop that wants everything for nothing and collects most deposits by card.
Tinsel CRM
$89 a month or $828 a year, ten users included, extra users $7.50. Tinsel is built around the holiday season as a cycle: proposal, install, takedown, storage, re-book. Inventory auto-deducts per job, materials get tagged by client for storage, routes optimize by geography and traffic, and crews get a mobile portal. Proposals are itemized and can include multi-year agreements. The mockup tool is marked "currently available for holiday lighting only," there is no measuring, and e-signature is not shown on the site. For a seasonal-only shop with a storage room full of tagged totes, Tinsel understands the business better than the generalists.
QuoteIQ
Five tiers on the pricing page: Essentials $29.99/mo, Beginner $74.99/mo, Pro $149.99/mo, Elite $299/mo, Max $699/mo, with two months free on annual billing and a 14-day trial. Satellite measurement (MapMeasure Pro) and e-signatures start at Beginner; QuickBooks and text automation at Pro; crews, routes and pipelines at Elite. The holiday lighting page describes an AI estimator that prices from roofline footage, tree count and installation height, and self-booking for takedown and storage. There is no design layer; the page does not mention mockups at all. QuoteIQ suits a multi-trade operator (washing, gutters, lights) who wants one CRM across all of it and will pair it with a visualizer.
Jobber
Core is $29 to $49 a month depending on term, Connect $99 to $139 (adds QuickBooks sync and automated follow-ups), Grow $149 to $199, Plus $399 to $499 with 15 users. Extra users are $29 each. 14-day trial on Grow, no card. Jobber is the polished generalist: scheduling, quotes, invoices, payments, client reminders, checklists, two-way texting. No design, no measurement, nothing that knows what a peak or a jump is. Their holiday lighting academy quotes a $442 average job and $150 to $2,000 for a roof, per-job figures rather than per-foot, last updated October 2025. Jobber suits the established multi-service company that already runs on it and only needs lights to fit in.
GlowBid
$299 a year for Core at the founding price ($499 after launch, or $69 a month), Pro $499 founding ($899 regular, $119/mo), Ultimate $699 founding ($1,299 regular, $169/mo). 7-day trial, no card, 30-day money-back, opening November 1, 2026. The free roofline measuring tool is live today at glowbid.io/tools/roofline-measure.
The difference is one canvas. You type the address and get a live Street View preview so you know the house (never stored, never measured; Google's terms forbid it and so do ours). You upload your own photo, set the scale from a garage door, and draw the runs: roofline, ridge line, peak, jump, ground, tree. That drawing is the measurement, with a source tag and a confidence level on every run and a warning on any run angled away from the camera. That drawing is also the price, because your rate card (per-foot by run type and product line, kits, peak and storey and rush premiums, flat per-jump and per-peak charges, add-ons, minimum job, discounts) is applied to the geometry as you draw. Change a run and the footage, the materials and the total change together. The quote PDF carries the drawing and a scope block, the homeowner e-signs (SHA-256 fingerprint on the signed document), pays the deposit through Stripe, and the invoice takes partial payments. Pro adds the pipeline and automated follow-up texts. Ultimate adds the production board, a crew app with photo-verified checklists and homeowner sign-off. Multi-year lease agreements create each season's install and takedown jobs when signed.
The limits, plainly. GlowBid is new; nobody has run a November on it yet, and the founding cohort will find rough edges we fix as they find them. The feature list is short on purpose. There is no QuickBooks sync yet. There is no AI photo-real render; the mockup is the drawn runs lit on your photo, which sells well in our experience but is not LightMaster's picture. Currency is USD at launch. LightMaster and LightQuoter have already survived a November; we will have by December. The founding price is the trade for being early, and I would rather you knew that than found out.
Which one for which shop
Solo seasonal installer, first or second year. LightQuoter. Free, and the fee only bites when you get paid. Add Strandr if the Street View mockup is not closing.
Seasonal shop with crews, storage and re-booking. Tinsel CRM. Nobody else models takedown, totes and next-season re-book as well. Pair it with Strandr or Inchr for the picture and the footage.
Holiday shop that wants everything under one login today. LightMaster Standard or Professional. Measuring, mockup, CRM, e-sign, payments, QuickBooks. Check the mobile app status before you commit.
Multi-trade operator (washing, gutters, lights). QuoteIQ or Jobber, whichever you already run. Neither draws lights, so budget for a visualizer.
Permanent lighting dealer or installer, or a shop selling multi-year leases. GlowBid. The rate card separates track from no-track from C9, prices jumps and peaks as their own lines, and the lease chain spawns the seasons. If you cannot wait for November 1, measure your next houses with the free tool now and lock the founding price on the pricing page; the first cohort keeps it for as long as the subscription stays active.
Any shop where footage gets re-typed between apps. GlowBid, because the re-typing is the bug it was built to remove. Try the free tool on your next house and see whether the drawing agrees with your tape.
What to check before you buy any of them
- Draw one real house you have already installed and compare the footage against what you actually used. A tool that misses by more than the buffer you carry is a tool that will cost you track in December.
- Send yourself the quote. Read it as the homeowner would. If the scope is vague or the price is a single number with no line items, you will be arguing about it in January.
- Sign it, pay a $1 deposit, and refund it. The signing and payment path is where cheap software gets expensive.
- Find the takedown. If the tool has no idea that the lights come down, it was built for a different trade.
- Ask what happens to your data if you leave. Strandr's LightingElf page is a useful reminder that acquisitions do not always carry your files along.
Questions installers ask
- What is the cheapest software to run a Christmas light business?
- LightQuoter is free with no feature limits; it earns its money through a 2% platform fee on payments you collect through Stripe, on top of Stripe's normal processing. If you would rather pay a flat fee, Strandr is $197 a year for mockups only, and LightMaster Lite is $187 a year for mockups, measuring and a CRM without e-signature or payments.
- Which one is best for permanent lighting?
- LightMaster and GlowBid both say permanent lighting is a first-class use. LightMaster covers it with mockups and management. GlowBid's rate card separates track, no-track and C9 seasonal as product lines with their own per-foot rates, per-jump and per-peak premiums and controller add-ons, and its lease agreements handle multi-year seasonal contracts. Tinsel's mockup tool is holiday-only.
- Do I need design software and a CRM, or one tool?
- It depends on where your quotes go wrong. If you lose jobs at the mockup, a visualizer alone fixes that. If you lose margin between the mockup and the invoice, because footage gets re-typed or the deposit never gets chased, you want the quote and the drawing in one place. Most shops over ten jobs a week end up wanting one tool.
- Can I measure a roofline from Google satellite or Street View?
- Some tools let you trace on satellite or Street View imagery. Be aware that Google's terms do not permit storing, tracing or deriving measurements from that imagery, and satellite views undercount gables. GlowBid measures only from photos you own and uses Street View strictly as a live preview. Whatever tool you use, confirm on site before ordering.
- Which tool works on an iPad in the driveway?
- Strandr, LightQuoter, Tinsel, QuoteIQ and Jobber all run in a browser or have a mobile app today. LightMaster's pricing page still lists its mobile app as coming this summer, so check before you buy. GlowBid is a browser app built iPad-first with large touch targets on the canvas tools, installable to the home screen.
- Is GlowBid ready to use this season?
- The free roofline measuring tool is live now. The full product opens November 1, 2026 to a founding cohort, with a 7-day free trial, no card required, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. It is a new product from a working installer, so expect fast fixes and a short feature list rather than a long one. There is no QuickBooks sync yet.
