A Gemstone Lights dealer needs software for the part Gemstone leaves to the dealer: turning the house into a per-foot price, getting it signed and taking the deposit. Gemstone's own pages, checked October 28, 2026, say price depends on "the number of linear feet needed" and the local market rate, and the dealer sets it. Its portal orders product and tracks leads. On GlowBid's default rate card, a 162 ft two-storey quotes at $4,707.20, worked below.

Written by Jack Seguin, GlowBid founder. I run a permanent lighting company in Ottawa. GlowBid is independent software: it has no partnership with Gemstone Lights, is not endorsed by Gemstone, and does not connect to the Hub2 app, the controller or the dealer portal. It sits beside them. Every Gemstone fact below is from gemstonelights.com and linked in the sources.

Job step What Gemstone's pages say it provides What the dealer still runs
Getting in No fee to join; starter inventory of roughly $10,000 to $15,000 (FAQ) or "up to $10,000" (onboarding list), enough for about 5 to 6 average homes, track not included Buying track on top
Who qualifies 5 years in business, $2 million annual gross revenue, sales staff, skilled installers, financing Nothing; you already run the business
Territory "No exclusive territories" Winning the job against another Gemstone dealer
Leads Leads management in the portal; dealers may become eligible for quote requests from Gemstone's website The call back, the photo measure, the follow-up
Ordering Storefront ordering and real-time order tracking in the portal Ordering the right footage and track colour
The estimate Price depends on linear feet and the local rate; the dealer gives the personalized price Footage by run, per-foot pricing, the quote, the signature, the deposit
Warranty Lifetime on track lights, 10 years on controllers, power kits, extensions, cables, connectors and track; register within 30 days; labour not covered Registration on install day, your labour term, the service ladder

Read the last column. Gemstone gives a dealer a product, a portal and sometimes a lead. The number on the quote is yours.

Where does dealer software sit next to the Gemstone portal?#

Before the order and beside the service request, never inside either. Gemstone's dealer program page lists six portal features: storefront, order tracking, a dealer tier program, leads management, service requests and an analytics dashboard. Every one of them starts after the homeowner has said yes, or tracks whether they did. None of them measures a roofline or prices a peak.

In GlowBid the split looks like this. The address search shows a live Street View preview so you recognise the house, and that preview is display only, never stored and never measured. The measuring happens on a photo you or the homeowner own. You draw each run by type (roofline, ridge line, peak, jump), set the scale from a known length such as the garage door, and the footage, bill of materials and price all come from that one drawing. The quote PDF carries the drawing, footage by run, line items and a scope block. The homeowner signs on their phone and pays the deposit by card through Stripe. Then you place the order in Gemstone's storefront.

Why does speed matter more with Gemstone?#

Because there are no exclusive territories. Gemstone's dealer opportunity page says so plainly, and its quote form lets a homeowner ask Gemstone for a price or pick a dealer. Another Gemstone dealer can quote the same street, the same lights, the same warranty. The dealer who sends a clear, priced quote first usually gets the measure booked.

The quickest path I know: ask the homeowner for one straight-on photo of the front, draw it, and send a priced range the same day with the on-site measure booked to confirm it. The free roofline measuring tool does the drawing part with no login until export. Our guide to quoting permanent lighting at the door covers doing it at the kitchen table.

What happens after the quote is where shared-territory leads are lost. GlowBid sends appointment and job reminders by text with opt-out handling and consent. On Pro, the pipeline board tracks every lead through to signed, automated follow-up sequences chase quotes that sit, and quote-view tracking tells you when the homeowner opened it.

How should a Gemstone dealer set up the rate card?#

One product line for Gemstone track, priced per foot by run type, with the controller as its own line. Gemstone's FAQ lists one spacing, lights "9 inches apart," so you do not need a line per spacing the way a Trimlight or JellyFish dealer does. That makes the light count simple: lit feet times 12, divided by 9.

9 inGemstone light spacing, FAQ
150+soffit and fascia colours matched, FAQ
30 daysto register the warranty

Track colour goes in the scope block, not the price. Gemstone's FAQ says dealers can match over 150 of the most common soffit and fascia colours. Write the colour on the quote the homeowner signs, so the order you place matches the house you measured.

Then set up the lines that are not track. Gemstone also sells patio lights, flood lights, deck lights and landscape lighting, and the warranty is not the same on all of them: patio and flood lights carry 5 years on the lights, against lifetime on track lights. Give each its own add-on line and name the warranty for each in the scope block. Our permanent per-foot pricing guide sets the base rates, and ridge lines, peaks and jumps pricing covers the runs that cost the most ladder time.

Worked example: a 162 ft two-storey house#

The house has 96 ft of main-storey roofline, 40 ft of upper-storey roofline, 26 ft of peaks and 10 ft of unlit jumps across two gaps. That is 162 lit feet, measured from the homeowner's photo with the 16 ft garage door as the reference. GlowBid's default track line, US dollars before tax. Installers set their own rates; these are the starting numbers every new account gets. You can price this house in the free tool.

At 9 inch spacing, 162 lit feet is 216 lights before waste. The jumps add footage of wire, not lights, which is why the drawing keeps them apart. Without the controller, the runs work out to $27.51 per lit foot. Gemstone publishes no per-foot price to compare it with, so the homeowner is comparing you with another dealer, not with a corporate number. Show the footage by run and the controller on its own line, and the comparison is easy to win.

Gemstone's starter inventory page says the kit covers about 5 to 6 average homes, without track. Six houses like this one is 972 lit feet, a quick check on whether your first order covers your first month of signed jobs.

What happens on install day and in the warranty years?#

Three things that are the dealer's job, and the first one has a deadline. Gemstone's warranty page says registration must be completed within 30 days of installation, through the Gemstone Lights app or its registration page, or after that it will no longer be honoured. Its FAQ says the control box is 8 by 11 inches and plugs into a regular outlet, and the hub supports 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi with a local Bluetooth connection as a fallback.

  1. Day 0Lead from your area or Gemstone's website
  2. Day 1Photo drawn, quote sent
  3. SigningE-signature and card deposit
  4. OrderTrack and colour ordered in the portal
  5. Install dayController on, Hub2 set up, warranty registered
  6. Day 30Registration deadline

On GlowBid Ultimate, the work order carries a photo-gated checklist: the crew cannot tick "warranty registered" without a photo of the confirmation, or "controller set up" without a photo of the box. GlowBid stores those photos on the job. It does not register the warranty for you and does not read or change anything in Hub2.

The second job is labour. Gemstone's warranty does not cover labour costs and says your authorized dealer may offer a labour warranty. So the part is Gemstone's for its lifetime or 10-year term, and the ladder is yours from day one. Put your labour term in the agreement, not in a conversation. GlowBid's permanent one-time agreement type carries your own clauses, and our permanent lighting installation agreement template has warranty and controller handover wording. Use service call and repair pricing to set the fee, and bill repairs from the invoice with its payments ledger.

The third is the house sale. Gemstone's warranty can be transferred once, within 90 days of possession, and the new owner gets the remaining coverage up to 2 years. Tell the homeowner at handover; it is one line in the scope block.

How do crews fit in?#

Through the production board, with prices hidden. Gemstone's program assumes you already have skilled installers on staff, and a Gemstone rep oversees your first job. After that, the crew is yours to train. GlowBid Ultimate gives you a board with Signed, Booked, In Progress and Finished, installer assignment, work orders, photo-gated checklists and homeowner sign-off at the end. Crew members never see prices or customer personal details. The office sees everything; the ladder sees the job.

What GlowBid does not do for a Gemstone dealer#

  • No connection to the Gemstone portal. Orders, order tracking and service requests stay there.
  • No connection to Hub2, the controller or warranty registration. The checklist reminds the crew; the crew registers.
  • No Gemstone product catalogue or part numbers. You name your product lines and set your own prices.
  • No lead feed. A website quote request reaches you the way it does today, and you enter the customer.
  • No offline mode, and no app store app. It is an installable web app.

Mistakes Gemstone dealers make on quotes#

  • Selling the lifetime warranty as lifetime service. Gemstone covers the part. Labour is not covered by Gemstone; say what yours is on the quote.
  • Forgetting to register. 30 days, then the warranty is not honoured. Checklist item, with a photo.
  • Budgeting the starter kit as the whole stock. The kit page says track is not included. Price track into your cost per foot.
  • Waiting a day to quote. With no exclusive territories, the other dealer may already be on the roof.
  • One warranty paragraph for everything. Track lights, patio lights and flood lights carry different terms. One line each.
  • Ordering track from the photo number. Photo measurements are estimates. Confirm on site, and keep the materials buffer you chose (GlowBid's default is 10 percent).

For homeowners comparing Gemstone dealers#

Gemstone dealers do not have exclusive territories, so two dealers may quote the same lights on your house, and each sets their own price. Ask each for footage by run (roofline, peaks, jumps), the track colour, the controller as its own line, who registers the warranty and when, and how long their own labour warranty runs. A quote that answers all five is easier to compare than a single number.

Where to go from here#

The permanent lighting dealer software hub compares what five manufacturers give their dealers, and Gemstone vs Trimlight sets Gemstone's warranty and spacing beside Trimlight's. GlowBid is Core $69, Pro $119 and Ultimate $169 a month, or $299, $499 and $699 a year, a yearly price locked while the subscription stays continuous, with a 7-day trial with no card and a 30-day money-back on a first yearly payment. Deposits through GlowBid carry Stripe processing plus a platform margin under 1 percent, shown before you connect Stripe. See pricing. Or start where every quote starts: draw one Gemstone house in the free measuring tool and read the lit footage off it.

FAQ

Questions installers ask

Does the Gemstone Lights dealer portal do quotes?

Not that Gemstone's public pages describe. Its dealer program page, checked October 28, 2026, lists storefront ordering, order tracking, a dealer tier program, leads management, service requests and an analytics dashboard. None of those turns a house into a per-foot price. The portal sits behind a login, so ask your Gemstone rep what it holds. The drawing, the quote, the signature and the deposit are yours to run.

Is GlowBid connected to Gemstone Lights or the Hub2 app?

No. GlowBid is independent software with no partnership, endorsement or data link with Gemstone Lights. It does not read the Hub2 app, the controller or the dealer portal, does not register warranties and holds no Gemstone part numbers. A Gemstone dealer uses it beside the brand's tools: GlowBid for the drawing, quote, signature, deposit and crew, the portal for ordering, Hub2 for the lights.

How many Gemstone lights go on a 162 ft house?

About 216. Gemstone's FAQ puts its lights 9 inches apart, so lit feet times 12, divided by 9, gives the light count before waste. Count only lit footage: jumps carry no lights. GlowBid gives you the lit footage from the drawing with jumps listed apart. Photo measurements are estimates, so confirm on site and keep your materials buffer before you order.

Who pays labour on a Gemstone warranty claim?

You do, unless your agreement says otherwise. Gemstone's warranty page says it does not cover labour and that your authorized dealer may offer a labour warranty. The part is covered, lifetime for registered track lights and 10 years for controllers, power kits and track. Write your labour term and a service call fee into the agreement before the first call comes in.

What happens if the Gemstone warranty is not registered?

Gemstone's warranty page says registration must be done within 30 days of installation, through the Gemstone Lights app or its registration page, and after that the warranty will no longer be honoured. That turns a missed form into your problem in year three. Make registration a checklist item on install day, with a photo of the confirmation, so it cannot be skipped.

Can I quote Gemstone patio and landscape lights on the same quote?

Yes. Gemstone lists permanent outdoor, landscape and patio lighting, and its warranty gives patio and flood lights 5 years on the lights against lifetime on track lights. In GlowBid you price the track per foot by run type and add patio strings and fixtures as their own add-on lines at your price, with the shorter warranty named in the scope block. One quote, one signature, one deposit.
