Christmas light installation in Regina starts at $500 CAD for the first year at Sunny Dayz, with lights, cords, timers and clips, then $200 to $400 a year for install and takedown. Greendrop starts at $650 for a bungalow and $900 for a two-storey, storage included. Add GST 5 percent and PST 6 percent, 11 percent in all. No Regina company publishes a per-foot rate.

I run a permanent lighting company in Ottawa. Regina is a metro of 249,217 on the 2021 census, the smallest city on this site, and the windiest on the Prairies. A small market means few published numbers and long drives to the towns around it; the wind means every clip counts. This page is what Regina companies publish, and a bungalow priced for year one and year two.

What does seasonal installation cost in Regina?#

$500 to $2,000 in year one, then $200 to $400, on the one Regina page that prints both. Sunny Dayz is a window cleaning company working out of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw; its first-year price buys the lights, cords, timers and clips, and every year after is install and takedown of the same strands. Greendrop publishes one price list for six Prairie cities, $650, $900 and $1,250 by house size, with storage included and free after year one. Pearl Lighting quotes each house with C9 strands cut to fit and repairs anything that goes dark all season at no charge.

That makes Regina a year-two market. Both companies that publish sell the first year to own the customer, and earn on the re-install. Price year one to win the house and year two so that it pays, and write the year-two price on the year-one quote so the customer knows what September brings. The seasonal per-foot guide builds the per-foot rate under a package price.

What do permanent lights cost in Regina?#

No Regina-based company publishes a price, so the published number is from Saskatoon: Wavelengths Lighting serves all of Saskatchewan at $31 a foot with a 20-year warranty; our Saskatoon pricing page prices a two-storey against it. In Regina, The Outdoor Lighting Company offers a 5-year parts and labour warranty and a lifetime warranty on bulbs, and says that after a few seasons a customer will have spent the same on its system as on seasonal installs, without giving the figures. Croft Electric installs Watts Lights and quotes by side of the house. Lights by HomeOne names what drives its price: footage, corners, access and the number of control panels.

The one other number a Regina customer can read is the power bill. Gemstone's Regina page puts 117 ft with 150 lights, six hours a day, at about $4.34 a month.

When is the Regina season?#

October into December, takedown in January, on Pearl Lighting's calendar. Regina's average first fall frost is September 17 on ECCC's 1991 to 2020 normals. The 1981 to 2010 snowfall averages at Regina International put 7 cm in October, 13 cm in November, 20 cm in December and 19 cm in January, 100 cm a year, with another 19 cm in March. The temperature normals give October a minus 2 low, November minus 11 with three nights below minus 20, December minus 18 with eleven, and January minus 20 with fourteen.

So October is the month, November is cold but workable, and December is rush. Takedown in January means minus 20 average lows; February has ten nights below minus 20 and March four, so give takedown a window from January to the end of March and let the weather pick the day. March snow, 19 cm of it, is the reason not to promise the last week.

What does Regina wind do to the price?#

It is the line item other cities do not have. Regina averages 18.4 km/h of wind and 29 days a year at 52 km/h or more, the windiest of the Prairie cities on this site and one day more than Calgary, chinooks and all. Electrician Regina plans its displays around wind, cold, frozen ground, snow and short daylight, and says wind-exposed rooflines need mounting suited to the surface.

18.4 km/hRegina average wind, 1981 to 2010
29days a year at 52 km/h or more
43nights a year below minus 20
  • Clip every socket. A strand held by every third clip is a strand on the lawn after the first prairie gust. It is more clips and more minutes per foot, and the per-foot rate has to carry it.
  • Ridge lines and peaks cost more here. They are the most exposed runs on the house. Price them as their own runs with the peak premium on top; the ridge lines, peaks and jumps page has the method.
  • The repair visit is in the price. Pearl fixes dark sections all season at no charge. If you do the same, build one or two visits into the season price; if you do not, say what a service call costs before the wind does.
  • Cold scrap. Forty-three nights below minus 20 and twelve below minus 30. A 10 percent materials buffer, shown on the quote as the installer's choice.

A worked example: a 118 ft bungalow, year one and year two#

A Regina bungalow measured from the homeowner's photo with the 16 ft garage door as the reference: 118 ft of roofline, two 12 ft peak runs over the front gable, two jumps of 5 ft. C9 seasonal, lights included in year one, priced on GlowBid's default rate card with its numbers typed in as Canadian dollars, $8 a foot roofline, $9 peaks with the 15 percent peak premium, $4 jumps and a $45 timer, with the minimum job lowered to $300.

Year two if the $1,500 minimum is left on, with tax $1,665.00 $1,189.88

Year one at $1,277.40 before tax is about double Greendrop's $650 starting price for a bungalow and inside Sunny Dayz's $500 to $2,000. Year two is the line to watch: the default seasonal-service rates, $3 a foot of roofline, $3.50 on peaks and $1.50 on jumps, give $465.60 before tax, above Sunny Dayz's $200 to $400. Leave the default $1,500 minimum on the card and both years price at $1,500, which prices you out of a $200 to $400 market. GlowBid has one minimum per rate card, so in Regina set it at the re-install level and let the per-foot rates carry year one. Draw your own house in the free roofline tool and the footage is there in two minutes; it is an estimate confirmed on site, and the quote says so.

Setting a Regina rate card#

  1. Tax: 11, labelled GST 5% plus PST 6%. Rates per the Canada Revenue Agency and the Government of Saskatchewan. Contracts that improve real property have been taxable on the total price, labour included, since April 1, 2017, per Osler's budget summary. Have your accountant confirm the seasonal case once, and tax the deposit too.
  2. Check the tax line when you cross the border. The Outdoor Lighting Company works Winnipeg and Brandon as well as Regina. Manitoba is 12 percent with RST. The rate card holds one percent and one label, so a Manitoba quote needs the line changed before it goes out.
  3. Minimum at the re-install level. $200 to $400 is the market. A $1,500 minimum prices you out of year two.
  4. A travel line. Regina service lists run to White City, Emerald Park, Pilot Butte, Lumsden and Moose Jaw (Pearl) and to Weyburn, Estevan, Yorkton and Swift Current (The Outdoor Lighting Company). Add a travel add-on at your own number for anything past the city.
  5. Rush from December 1, and a takedown window to March.

GlowBid bills in US dollars at launch; the rate card holds whatever CAD numbers you type. A signed seasonal lease creates each season's install and takedown job, so the January call is on the calendar before the lights go up. A 7-day trial with no card and a 30-day money-back on a first yearly payment are on the pricing page, and the takedown pricing and scheduling page covers the window clause.

Mistakes to avoid on Regina quotes#

  • Leaving the default minimum on. Year two at $1,500 against a published $200 to $400 is a lost customer.
  • Quoting year one without the year-two price. Regina companies publish both; the customer will ask.
  • Clipping for Ottawa wind. Twenty-nine days a year at 52 km/h or more. Every socket.
  • Giving the ridge line the roofline rate. It is the most exposed run on the house. Price it with the premium.
  • Driving to Moose Jaw for the city minimum. Price the travel.
  • Using the Saskatchewan tax line on a Brandon quote. Twelve percent in Manitoba, not eleven.
  • Trusting a photo measurement on a run that angles away from the camera. It reads short; type the tape length on the site visit.

FAQ

Questions installers ask

How much does Christmas light installation cost in Regina?

Sunny Dayz, a Regina company with locations in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw, publishes $500 to $2,000 for the first year with lights, cords, timers and clips, and Greendrop starts at $650 for a bungalow, $900 for an average two-storey and $1,250 for an oversize two-storey with storage included. That is $357.32 to $1,429.29 USD at the Bank of Canada's October 23, 2026 rate. Add GST 5 percent and PST 6 percent. No Regina company publishes a per-foot seasonal rate.

What do Regina installers charge to re-install lights in year two?

$200 to $400 a year for install and takedown at Sunny Dayz once the first-year lights are bought, $142.93 to $285.86 USD. Greendrop charges install and takedown only after year one, with storage free, but does not print the number. GlowBid's default seasonal-service line prices a 118 ft bungalow at $465.60 before tax, so a Regina card needs its re-install rate or its minimum set to match the market.

What do permanent Christmas lights cost in Regina?

No Regina-based company publishes a price. Wavelengths Lighting in Saskatoon serves all of Saskatchewan at $31 CAD a foot installed with a 20-year warranty. In Regina, The Outdoor Lighting Company offers a 5-year parts and labour warranty and lifetime bulbs, and Croft Electric installs Watts Lights, both by quote. Gemstone's Regina page puts the running cost of 117 ft at about $4.34 a month.

Do Regina homeowners pay PST on Christmas light installation?

Yes, Saskatchewan charges 6 percent PST on top of 5 percent GST, 11 percent in all, per the Canada Revenue Agency and the provincial PST page. Contracts that improve real property have been taxable on the total price, labour included, since April 1, 2017, per Osler's budget summary. A Regina company that also works in Manitoba charges 12 percent there, so check the tax line before each quote goes out.

How does Regina wind affect a Christmas light install?

It is the main cost. Regina averages 18.4 km/h of wind and 29 days a year at 52 km/h or more on the 1981 to 2010 normals, the windiest of the Prairie cities on this site and one day more than Calgary. A strand held by every third clip comes down. Clip every socket, use shingle tabs on the ridge line, and price the mid-season repair visit into the season, as Pearl Lighting does.

When do Regina installers hang and take down lights?

Pearl Lighting installs from October into December and takes down in January. Regina's average first fall frost is September 17 on ECCC's 1991 to 2020 normals, November brings 13 cm of snow and a minus 11 low, and December 20 cm and 11 nights below minus 20. Book October first, and give takedown a window from January to the end of March, since January averages minus 20.
